The Psychological and Educational Needs of Adolescents in Light of Islamic Foundations: A Descriptive-Analytical Study

Abstract

The aim of my current research is to describe and analyze the psychological and educational needs of the adolescent, in addition to identifying the most important challenges he faces in the modern era, and to verify the role of educators in achieving the psychological stability of the adolescent. The research relied on the descriptive-analytical method, which is based on describing and studying the phenomenon, interpreting the content, and discussing it according to the analysis of texts from the Qur’an and the Sunnah. The research sample consisted of the category of adolescents from Muslim families as a theoretical sample upon which Islamic visions for generalization are built, using the Holy Qur’an, the Sunnah, and the books of the righteous predecessors to derive information to enrich the research. The results were as follows: the necessity of increasing the awareness of educators of the psychological and educational needs of adolescents in the light of the Qur’an and the Sunnah. The results showed that the psychological and social challenges facing the adolescent in the modern era are directly related to the degree of the adolescent’s rationality. The results also showed that there is a positive correlation between the containment of adolescents by educators and the fulfillment of their needs according to the Islamic perspective, and the achievement of their psychological stability. The results also showed the superiority of the Islamic perspective in meeting needs over Maslow’s hierarchy by fulfilling the faith dimension of adolescents. The research concluded with a number of recommendations, the most important of which was: preparing awareness programs for parents and those interested in education with the aim of raising their awareness of the needs of adolescents according to the Islamic perspective
