This study examines divorce as one of the most psychologically and emotionally disruptive human experiences, given its nature as a profound personal and social loss and its impact on the structure of relationships and expectations. The research focuses specifically on the waiting period (ʿiddah ,)viewing it as a critical and decisive stage in which the marital bond may either be preserved or finally dissolved. It is during this period that feelings of grief, anxiety, and fear of the future intensify—feelings that, in the absence of proper regulation, may develop into long-lasting psychological and behavioral disorders.
The study adopts an Islamic psychological perspective that aims to conceptualize taqwā as a cognitivespiritual framework capable of refining inner motives, regulating emotional responses, and redirecting behavior in ways that foster psychological tranquility and emotional stability among divorcees. Employing the descriptive, analytical, and inductive methodology, the research analyzes the concept of taqwā ,the nature of grief and its psychological disruptions, and compares these dimensions within contemporary psychological models and the Islamic worldview.
The study concludes that taqwā functions as an effective preventive and therapeutic mechanism that limits excessive grief and prevents its escalation into pathological disorders. It also helps protect divorcees from falling into impulsive or depressive behaviors, thereby contributing positively to the well-being of the individual, the family, and society
